Wald
by Right Way Down
The forest is a living organism, it grows, moves, breaks, transforms in an incessant process of germination and decay kept in a fragile natural balance. Six extraordinary handstand artists create this atmosphere on stage with their bodies: they grow together, sway, collapse. This breathtaking choreography about the cycle of life and death redefines the art of handstand balancing in a fascinating collage of bodies. The traditionally solitary discipline becomes a shared form of expression, a collective force, a wild “forest” of arms, legs, and bodies breathing in and out with each other in symbiosis. You nearly forget that the performers are almost constantly moving upside down – an incredible physical feat in itself. The collective was founded at the University of the Arts in Stockholm. All six acrobats work on different projects, but always come together to turn the world upside down.
About Ruhrfestspiele
The festival tent has been a special venue for the Ruhrfestspiele for many years and is located in the heart of the Recklinghausen Stadtgarten behind the Ruhrfestspielhaus. Here, the audience sits particularly close to the action on stage. The tent offers a special festival atmosphere and is regularly used for productions from the genres of new circus, music and young theater.
The Ruhrfestspiele is one of the oldest, largest and most renowned theatre festivals in Europe. During the annual festival season from May 1st to mid-June Recklinghausen transforms into an international cultural and theatre metropolis. International drama and dance theatre and co-productions with major German-speaking theatres, but also outstanding productions of the off-theatre scene and the New Circus form the core of the contemporary programme. Performance productions, visual arts, readings, concerts and new discourse formats also seek to address relevant political issues.
